A red blood cell is placed in a hypertonic solution of a solute that cannot cross its membrane. Which way does water move, and what is the likely visible result?

  1. A water enters the cell; the cell swells and may burst (haemolysis)
  2. B water leaves the cell; the cell shrinks (crenation)
  3. C no net water movement; volume stays constant
  4. D water leaves the cell; the membrane pulls away from the cell wall (plasmolysis)

Frequently asked questions

How does KFUPM's Achievement Test differ from the general Tahsili?

General Tahsili covers all three secondary years at 25% each for biology, chemistry, physics and maths. KFUPM's test is based only on grades 10 and 11, with 80% on those science subjects (biology 22.7%, chemistry 22.7%, physics 27.3%, maths 27.3%) and 20% on skills, and it is required only for KFUPM's primary admission track.

Can I try KFUPM Tahsili questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end you get your score and your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this KFUPM Tahsili question bank different?

Question bank: A site supplementary practice session of 110 questions in 125 minutes with a result for every unit, plus 500 explained questions across 5 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

How many questions are there and how long is the test?

110 multiple-choice questions in 5 sections of 22 questions and 25 minutes each, totalling 2 hours 5 minutes. You cannot return to a previous section, and calculators are not allowed.

Does the test include English?

No. The official booklet states the test language is Arabic. English proof (STEP 65 or equivalent) is a separate admission requirement, not part of this test.

Which skills does the skills section cover?

Four skills per the booklet: obtaining and evaluating information, numerical skills, using a computer to process data, and critical thinking.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. It is a site practice result, not an official score or an estimate of admission probability. The site is independent of KFUPM and Qiyas.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Summary

Connect structure and function across cells, inheritance, human systems, plants, classification and ecology. Trace matter and information, and state assumptions in biological calculations.

What the exam focuses on

  • Relate cell structures and tissues to their functions.
  • Track chromosomes, alleles and sequence direction.
  • Trace blood, water, gases and sugars through systems.
Show 1 more
  • Apply ecological models using stated assumptions.

Common traps

  • Replication doubles DNA quantity, not the number of chromosomes counted by centromeres.
  • A 3:1 phenotype ratio requires complete dominance; multiply probabilities only for independent events.
  • Check strand direction before writing its complement; RNA uses U rather than T.
Show 3 more
  • Pulmonary veins carry oxygenated blood: vessel names describe flow direction.
  • Light-independent does not mean nighttime-only: Calvin-cycle reactions depend on ATP and NADPH.
  • A 10% trophic transfer or one aerobic ATP total is a model assumption, not a universal constant.

What separates in meiosis I and II?

I: homologous chromosomes; II: sister chromatids.

In Aa × aa, what fraction is aa?

1/2: the first parent supplies a half the time.

What does ADH do in collecting ducts?

It promotes aquaporin insertion and water reabsorption.

Where are light reactions and the Calvin cycle?

Thylakoid membranes; chloroplast stroma, respectively.

Does rotating a tree branch alter ancestry?

No; shared branching points determine the relationships.

Why does a larger cube have a lower surface area/volume ratio?

SA/V=6/L: doubling L halves the ratio.
