Where other sources differ

  • This is Science 2, for intermediate-school science teachers (7 domains and 31 standards). Science 1, for primary-school teachers, is a separate test with its own standards and weights, and has its own page on this site.

How to register

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the science subject test during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100). This page covers Science 2 (intermediate school); if you teach science at primary school, your test is Science 1, which has its own page on this site. Check that the subject you register for matches the stage you teach.
  3. Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
  4. Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are there in the Science 2 test and how long is it?

The Science 2 test has 88 multiple-choice questions with four options and lasts 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams use the same number of questions and time.

Can I try Teacher License – Science 2 questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this Teacher License – Science 2 question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 465 explained questions across 7 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the pass mark?

The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.

What does the test cover and how is it weighted?

31 standards in seven domains, according to the candidate guide: Chemistry 25%, Physics 25%, Biology 20%, Earth Science and Astronomy 10%, Science Teaching 8%, History, Nature and Integration of Science 7%, and Experimentation, Mathematical Skills and Data Representation 5%. Chemistry and physics together are half of the test.

What is the difference between Science 1 and Science 2?

Science 1 is for primary-school science teachers and Science 2 for intermediate-school science teachers, according to the Ministry of Education's guide to specialisations for teaching posts (2025). Each is a separate test with its own guide and standards: Science 2 has 31 standards and chemistry and physics make up half the test, while Science 1 has 26 standards, chemistry and physics together at 38.5%, and more weight on earth science, astronomy and science teaching. This site has a page for each: "Teacher License – Science 1" and "Teacher License – Science 2".

When is the next test?

The first 1448 AH sitting of the subject test ran from 18 to 31 October 2026, and the next one is expected in late January 2027. Keep an eye on ETEC's page so you can register when it opens.

Do I need a calculator, and how do I prepare for the calculation questions?

Calculators are not allowed in the subject tests. Chemistry and physics problems are solved on paper, and the ETEC guide's example on the mass of NaOH in 50.0 mL of a 1.5 M solution takes three steps: moles, then molar mass, then mass. Practise multiplying, dividing and working with powers of ten without a calculator from day one.

Is the subject test enough to get the license?

No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.

How long are the result and the license valid?

A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: History, Nature and Integration of Science

Summary

This unit accounts for about 6 of the 88 questions on the exam, roughly 7% of the score. It has three parts. The first (standard 6.5.1) covers the nature and history of science: its capacity for revision, the difference between a fact, concept, principle, law and theory, and the contributions of scientists from Islamic civilization. The second (standard 6.5.2) covers the scientific method: hypotheses, variables and control groups, data collection, accuracy, precision and error, evaluating sources, and research ethics. The third (standard 6.5.5) covers how the sciences integrate and apply to medicine, drugs, food, agriculture and earth sciences. Questions are mostly direct. The most frequent topics are hypothesis versus theory versus law, identifying variables, and matching a scientist to a contribution.

What the exam focuses on

  • Hypothesis versus theory versus law: a hypothesis is a testable tentative explanation, a theory is a broad explanation backed by much evidence, and a law describes a regularity in nature (standard 6.5.1, indicator 5).
  • The nature of science: it can be revised, rests on evidence from the senses, and is neutral (standard 6.5.1, indicator 1).
  • Matching Muslim scientists to their contributions: Ibn al-Haytham to optics, al-Biruni to specific gravity measurements, Ibn Sina to medicine, al-Khwarizmi to algebra, Jabir ibn Hayyan to chemistry (indicator 3).
Show 5 more
  • Identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables and the control group in a given experiment (standard 6.5.2, indicator 2).
  • Telling accuracy from precision, and random error from systematic error, with the sources of each (standard 6.5.2, indicator 4).
  • Ordering the steps of the scientific method and choosing the right kind of study for a hypothesis, experimental or non-experimental (indicators 1 and 2).
  • Research ethics: honesty, no fabricated or plagiarized data, informed consent, and protection of participants and living subjects (indicator 6).
  • Applications of integrated sciences: medical imaging (X-rays, ultrasound, MRI), biotechnology and geochemistry (standard 6.5.5).

Common traps

  • Confusing a hypothesis with a theory: a theory never becomes a law however much evidence accumulates. A law describes what happens, and a theory explains why.
  • Treating a theory as a mere guess. In science a theory is an explanation that has been tested many times and is supported by evidence. An untested guess is closer to a hypothesis.
  • Thinking science proves facts once and for all. Science is open to revision, and its explanations can change when new evidence appears.
Show 5 more
  • Mixing up the independent and dependent variable: the independent one is what the researcher deliberately changes, and the dependent one is what is measured in response. A controlled variable is kept the same in every group.
  • Confusing accuracy with precision: accuracy is how close a measurement is to the true value, and precision is how close repeated measurements are to each other. Readings can be precise yet inaccurate.
  • Assuming the control group gets the same treatment as the others. The control group does not receive the factor being tested, and serves as the baseline for comparison.
  • Treating all sources as equally reliable. Peer-reviewed journals are more trustworthy than an anonymous website or a social media post.
  • Confusing random with systematic error: a systematic error shifts every reading in one direction (for example an unzeroed balance), while a random error scatters readings around the value.

What is a scientific hypothesis?

A tentative explanation for a phenomenon that can be tested by experiment or observation.

How does a scientific law differ from a scientific theory?

A law describes what happens in nature, and a theory explains why it happens. A theory does not turn into a law.

What are the key features of the nature of science?

It is open to revision, relies on sensory evidence, and is neutral.

Which Muslim scientist wrote the Book of Optics?

Ibn al-Haytham, a pioneer of optics who used experiments to test hypotheses.

Who wrote The Canon of Medicine?

Ibn Sina.

Which field is al-Khwarizmi associated with?

Algebra. The word "algorithm" derives from his name.

What are the independent and dependent variables?

The independent variable is what the researcher deliberately changes, and the dependent variable is what is measured as a result.

What is the purpose of a control group?

It does not receive the tested factor, so it is the baseline for comparison to see the factor's effect.
