Where other sources differ
- This is Science 1, for primary-school science teachers (7 domains and 26 standards). Science 2, for intermediate-school teachers, is a separate test with its own standards and weights, and has its own page on this site.
- Science 1 gives more weight than Science 2 to earth science and astronomy (14%), science teaching (12%) and the history and nature of science (10.5%), and less to chemistry (19.5%) and physics (19%). It has no mole calculations or redox, and it does cover simple machines, fluids, magnetism and students' misconceptions.
How to register
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
- Register for the science subject test during the announced registration window and choose Science 1 if you teach, or will teach, science at primary school (Science 2 is for intermediate-school teachers). Then pay the fee (SAR 100).
- Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
- Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Science 1 and Science 2?
Science 1 is for primary-school science teachers and Science 2 for intermediate-school science teachers, according to the Ministry of Education's guide to specialisations for teaching posts (2025). Each is a separate test with its own guide and standards: Science 1 has 26 standards, with chemistry and physics together at 38.5%, while Science 2 has 31 standards and chemistry and physics make up half the test. This site has a page for each: "Teacher License – Science 1" and "Teacher License – Science 2".
Can I try Teacher License – Science 1 questions for free?
Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.
What makes this Teacher License – Science 1 question bank different?
Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 465 explained questions across 7 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.
How many questions are there in the Science 1 test and how long is it?
The Science 1 test has 88 multiple-choice questions with four options and lasts 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams use the same number of questions and time.
What does the test cover and how is it weighted?
26 standards in seven domains, according to the Science 1 candidate guide (pp. 6–7): Biology 20%, Chemistry 19.5%, Physics 19%, Earth Science and Astronomy 14%, Science Teaching 12%, History, Nature and Integration of Science 10.5%, and Experimentation, Mathematical Skills and Data Representation 5%.
What is the pass mark?
The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.
Do I need a calculator, and how do I prepare for the calculation questions?
Calculators are not allowed in the subject tests. Calculations in Science 1 are few and simple, like the examples in ETEC's guide: the density of a 49 g piece with a volume of 7 cm³, or where a second child must sit for a seesaw to balance. Practise density, percentages, work, levers and Ohm's law on paper.
When is the next test?
The first 1448 AH sitting of the subject test ran from 18 to 31 October 2026, and the next one is expected in late January 2027. Keep an eye on ETEC's page so you can register when it opens.
Is the subject test enough to get the license?
No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.
Is my mock exam score an official result?
No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.
How long are the result and the license valid?
A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.
Is this an official site, and how do I pay?
It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.
Study material sample: History, Nature and Integration of Science
Summary
This unit accounts for about 9 of the 88 questions on the exam, roughly 10% of the score. It covers three standards. The first (6.37.1) is the nature and history of science: contributions of Islamic and other civilizations, characteristics of science such as being open to revision and based on sensory evidence, and the difference between a fact, concept, principle, law and theory. The second (6.37.2) is the scientific method, its steps and related concepts such as hypotheses, variables, induction and deduction, evaluating sources of knowledge, and research ethics. The third (6.37.5) is how physics, chemistry, biology and earth science integrate with mathematics and apply to medicine, engineering and agriculture. Questions are mostly direct, and questions that separate a law from a theory, or induction from deduction, come up repeatedly.
What the exam focuses on
- Law versus theory: a law describes what happens without explaining it, and a theory explains why it happens (standard 6.37.1, indicator 3).
- Telling a fact, concept, principle, law and theory apart, with an example of each (6.37.1, indicator 3).
- Characteristics of science: open to revision, based on sensory evidence, and neutral (6.37.1, indicator 2).
Show 5 more
- Matching a Muslim scientist with the achievement: Ibn al-Haytham and optics, al-Khwarizmi and algebra, al-Razi and medicine, Jabir ibn Hayyan and chemistry (6.37.1, indicator 1).
- Induction moves from particular cases to a general rule. Deduction moves from a general rule to a particular case (6.37.2, indicator 1).
- Variables in an experiment: the independent variable is changed by the researcher, the dependent variable is measured, and controlled variables are kept constant (6.37.2, indicator 1).
- A hypothesis is a testable tentative explanation, and it is supported or rejected depending on experimental results (6.37.2, indicator 1).
- How reliable different sources of scientific knowledge are, the strongest being peer-reviewed scientific journals (6.37.2, indicator 2).
Common traps
- Confusing a theory with a law: a theory never becomes a law however much evidence builds up. A law describes and predicts, and a theory explains.
- The statement "a gas was observed to expand when heated" is a fact or observation, not an explanation. The explanation in terms of faster-moving particles is the theory.
- Mixing up induction and deduction: concluding that all metals expand when heated because iron and silver do is induction, since it moves from parts to the whole.
Show 5 more
- Calling the variable the researcher measures the independent variable. The independent variable is the one deliberately changed, and the one measured is the dependent variable.
- Thinking science is a set of final facts that never change. Science is open to revision when new evidence appears, which is one of its characteristics and not a flaw.
- Treating a scientific theory as a mere guess. A theory is an explanation that has been tested many times and is supported by evidence, and an untested guess is closer to a hypothesis.
- Trusting a website just because it appears in search results. Check the publisher, the author, the date and the references.
- Matching an achievement with the wrong scientist, such as algebra with Ibn Sina or camera obscura optics with al-Khwarizmi. Learn each scientist together with his field.
