Where other sources differ
- This is the SCE exam run with Qiyas. It differs from the US FE exam by NCEES, which the SCE also accepts: the NCEES exam has 110 questions and costs SAR 1,500 to the SCE plus USD 250 to NCEES.
- Circuits, power and electronics together make up 22 of the 50 questions in the electrical part, and most are calculation problems where you need your calculator.
- Since the Professional Accreditation Guide for Engineering Categories was approved in November 2024, passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required for the Associate Engineer grade, and the PE practice exam plus 5 years of experience for the Professional grade.
How to register
- Register with the Saudi Council of Engineers and hold an active membership; it is required to sit the exam.
- Wait for the SCE to announce the exam date and open registration, then register through your professional accreditation profile at the SCE or through the Qiyas portal.
- Register for both parts: the general part (90 questions) and your discipline part (50 questions). If your discipline is not on the list, choose "Other".
- Pay the fee for each part (SAR 400) and attend on exam day with your admission card at the centre you chose.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Saudi Council of Engineers exam and who needs it?
The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is offered by the Saudi Council of Engineers with the National Center for Assessment (Qiyas). It measures the core engineering knowledge of anyone seeking the Associate Engineer grade. Final-year students, fresh graduates and working engineers can take it, provided they hold an active SCE membership. It has two parts: a general part shared by all engineers and a discipline part.
Can I try SCE FE Electrical questions for free?
Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end you get your score and your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.
What makes this SCE FE Electrical question bank different?
Question bank: full mock exams of 50 questions in 180 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 330 explained questions across 9 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.
How many questions are in the electrical part and how long is it?
50 multiple-choice questions with four options in 3 hours, with no penalty for wrong answers, according to the study guide. It is the second session after the general part (90 questions in 3 hours), and you must pass both parts.
What topics does the electrical part cover?
9 topics, according to the table of specifications in the study guide: circuits 8 questions, power 7, electronics 7, digital systems 6, control systems 5, communications 5, computer systems 5, signal processing 4 and electromagnetics 3.
Is the exam in Arabic or English?
The exam is in English, according to the FAQ on the SCE website. That is why the questions here show in English first, with the Arabic translation and Arabic explanations one tap away.
Can I use a calculator?
Yes, calculators approved by the exam authority are allowed, and the formula and data sheets you need are handed out in the hall; books and notes are not allowed, according to the exam rules in the study guide.
What is the difference between the SCE-Qiyas exam and the NCEES exam?
The SCE accepts both for the Associate Engineer grade. The Qiyas exam has a 90-question general part and a 50-question discipline part, at SAR 400 per part. The US NCEES exam has 110 computer-based questions at approved centres all year, and costs SAR 1,500 to the SCE plus USD 250 to NCEES. The questions on this site follow the Qiyas exam syllabus.
Are the questions on this site taken from the official exam?
No. We wrote the questions ourselves against the indicators in the electrical engineering standards in the study guide, reviewed each one, and every question names the topic and indicator it tests. The SCE does not provide sample question banks, and we use the guide's sample questions only to match the level, without copying them.
Is this an official site, and how do I pay?
It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.
Study material sample: Circuits
Summary
Circuits accounts for about 8 of the 50 questions in the Electrical part, roughly 16% of the score, and it is the largest unit. It has 13 topics: Kirchhoff's laws, equivalent circuits and impedance; node and mesh analysis, Thevenin and Norton theorems and two-ports; transfer functions and Laplace transforms; frequency and transient response; and finally resonance and passive filters. Most questions are short calculations solved in a few steps, and some are conceptual questions on resonance and filter design. Knowing the basic formulas and the hertz versus rad/s conversion saves real time.
What the exam focuses on
- KCL: the currents at any node sum to zero. KVL: the voltages around any closed loop sum to zero (EE-T1-01).
- Series resistances add, parallel resistances add as reciprocals, which gives the voltage divider and current divider rules (EE-T1-02).
- Impedance: Z_R=R, Z_L=j\omega L=sL, Z_C=1/(j\omega C)=1/(sC); phasor analysis treats every element as an impedance (EE-T1-03).
Show 5 more
- Transfer function H(s)=V_{out}(s)/V_{in}(s) with zero initial conditions: numerator roots are zeros, denominator roots are poles, and the system is stable when all poles lie in the left half of the s-plane (EE-T1-04).
- Nodal analysis applies KCL at nodes and mesh analysis applies KVL around meshes; a supernode or supermesh handles a source shared between two nodes or meshes (EE-T1-05).
- Thevenin equivalent: V_{th} is the open-circuit voltage and R_{th} is the resistance seen with independent sources deactivated; Norton I_N=V_{th}/R_{th}; maximum power transfer occurs at R_L=R_{th} (EE-T1-06).
- First-order response v(t)=v_\infty+(v_0-v_\infty)e^{-t/\tau} with \tau=RC or L/R; in RLC circuits compare \alpha with \omega_0 to find the damping type (EE-T1-08).
- Resonance: \omega_0=1/\sqrt{LC}, quality factor Q, bandwidth BW=\omega_0/Q; a first-order RC filter has cutoff f_c=1/(2\pi RC) (EE-T1-11, EE-T1-12).
Common traps
- When finding R_{th}, only independent sources are deactivated: voltage sources are shorted and current sources opened. Dependent sources stay, and the resistance is found with a test source.
- Maximum power transfer at R_L=R_{th} gives only 50% efficiency in the equivalent circuit; it is not maximum efficiency. And P_{max}=V_{th}^2/(4R_{th}), not V_{th}^2/R_{th}.
- Mixing frequency f in hertz with angular frequency \omega=2\pi f in rad/s; many wrong answers come from forgetting 2\pi in X_L, X_C and f_0.
Show 5 more
- The time constant of an RL circuit is L/R, not RL; for RC it is RC. After one \tau the response has covered 63.2% of the total change, and it settles after about 5\tau.
- At series resonance the impedance is minimum (equal to R) and current is maximum; at ideal parallel resonance the impedance is maximum and the line current is minimum. Do not swap them.
- The damping coefficient \alpha differs by topology: R/2L for series RLC and 1/(2RC) for parallel RLC; using the wrong one flips the answer between overdamped and underdamped.
- Two-port connections: series adds Z parameters, parallel adds Y parameters, and cascade multiplies ABCD matrices in the correct order; changing the order changes the result.
- Passive filters have no active gain: the voltage gain stays at or below 1 except for resonance peaking, and real amplification needs active elements. At the cutoff the gain is 1/\sqrt{2} (−3 dB), not 0.5.
