Where other sources differ
- Close to half the test is subject-specific pedagogy: the curriculum, teaching methods, thinking and assessment domain alone is 37%, plus 7% for the nature of the subject. Materials, techniques and art history are spread across the other domains.
- Some questions show a picture of an artwork or a piece of Arabic calligraphy and ask about its elements or style, as in the practice questions in ETEC's guide. That is why the question bank includes questions on design principles, perspective and calligraphy styles.
How to register
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
- Register for the art education subject test during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
- Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
- Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions are there in the Art Education test and how long is it?
88 multiple-choice questions with four options, in 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams are the same length.
Can I try Teacher License – Art Education questions for free?
Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.
What makes this Teacher License – Art Education question bank different?
Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 479 explained questions across 6 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.
What is the pass mark?
The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.
What does the test cover and how is it weighted?
10 standards in six domains, according to the candidate guide: Applying the Art Curriculum and Teaching Methods 37%, Producing Visual Arts 18%, History of Art Education and New Technologies 16%, Responding to Art 13%, Local and Global Information Sources 9%, and the Nature of Art Education and Its Links to Other Subjects 7%.
Which part of the test is the largest?
Applying the art curriculum and its teaching methods at 37%, about 33 of the 88 questions. It has four standards: the curriculum and its development, teaching methods, mental processes and creative thinking, and assessment. Starting there covers more than a third of the test.
Is there an Art Education 1 and 2, like science and maths?
No. ETEC publishes one guide and one set of standards for art education, so it is a single test with its 10 standards for art teachers at every stage.
When is the next test?
The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.
Does the test ask about materials and tools?
Yes. The Producing Visual Arts standard (18%) covers the names and uses of tools and materials, the fields of art such as ceramics, printmaking, woodwork, metalwork and textiles, and safety and the care of artworks. Many of the examples in ETEC's guide are of this kind, such as the tool for scraping clay and the best carving material for a beginner.
Is the subject test enough to get the license?
No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.
Is my mock exam score an official result?
No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.
How long are the result and the license valid?
A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.
Is this an official site, and how do I pay?
It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.
Study material sample: Producing Visual Arts
Summary
This unit carries about 16 of the 88 questions and is the largest in the test. It covers one standard, 6.20.1 (concepts and skills of art production). It starts with the fields of art and design and their techniques (drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and more), then tools and materials and what each is used for, then creative innovation and experimenting with materials and media. It moves on to developing students' skills according to their abilities, holding exhibitions and events with their work, and linking art to life and income. It ends with safety procedures and with moving, preserving and storing artworks. Questions on materials, techniques and safety are direct, so memorise the classifications and terms.
What the exam focuses on
- Classifying the fields of art and design with examples of each: drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, graphic design (indicator 1).
- Types of printmaking: relief, intaglio, screen (silkscreen) and planographic, and how each differs (indicator 1).
- Clay building methods: coiling, slabs, pinching and the wheel, and the firing stages (indicator 1).
Show 5 more
- Names, uses and sources of tools and materials, such as brushes, pencils, paints and paper (indicator 2).
- The elements of creativity (fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration), generating ideas and experimenting with materials (indicator 3).
- Building students' skills step by step according to their abilities, interests and prior experience (indicator 4).
- Organising exhibitions and events with student work inside and outside school, and linking art to life and work (indicators 5 and 6).
- Safety procedures when using materials and tools, and the methods for moving, preserving and storing artworks (indicators 7 and 8).
Common traps
- Mixing up relief and intaglio: in relief the raised part of the block prints (woodcut, linocut); in intaglio the ink held in the grooves prints (metal etching, engraving).
- Confusing the bisque firing with the glaze firing: the first turns clay into hard, porous ware before glazing; the second comes after the glaze is applied.
- Mixing up watercolor, acrylic and oil: watercolor is thinned with water and is transparent; acrylic is thinned with water, dries fast and is water-resistant once dry; oil needs a solvent and dries slowly.
Show 5 more
- Treating fluency and originality as the same thing: fluency is the number of ideas, originality is how rare and new they are, flexibility is how varied their categories are.
- Choosing the option that exposes students to danger in safety questions, such as using a solvent without ventilation or gloves; the correct answer is always the safest one.
- Assuming the teacher imposes one style on everyone; indicator 4 says skills are developed according to students' abilities and interests.
- Storing paper works folded, in a damp place or in sunlight; the correct way is flat, in a dry place away from direct light and moisture.
- Seeing the school exhibition as an end in itself; indicator 5 makes it an educational event that uses student work inside and outside the school.
