Where other sources differ

  • The biology test is a single test (12 standards in 7 domains); it does not have two levels like science and maths. The biology questions in the Science 2 test are a small part of that test (20%) and do not replace this one.
  • Some websites put laboratory safety together with the nature of biology in one section. In ETEC's guide, safety is part of the teaching biology domain (11%), and the history and nature of biology is a separate domain at 13%.

How to register

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the subject test in biology during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
  3. Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
  4. Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are there in the Biology test and how long is it?

88 multiple-choice questions with four options, in 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams are the same length.

Can I try Teacher License – Biology questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this Teacher License – Biology question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 482 explained questions across 7 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the pass mark?

The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.

What does the test cover and how is it weighted?

12 standards in seven domains, according to the candidate guide: Life Processes, Immunity and Disease 21%, Structural and Functional Organisation of Living Things 15%, Genetics 15%, History and Nature of Biology and Its Links to Other Sciences 13%, Ecology and Biodiversity 13%, Classification of Living Things 12%, and Teaching Biology and Laboratory Safety 11%.

Is there a Biology 1 and Biology 2, like science and maths?

No. ETEC publishes one guide and one set of standards for biology, unlike science, maths and English, which each have two levels (1 and 2). The biology test is a single test with its own 12 standards.

When is the next test?

The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.

Are there recall sets (tajmi'at) for the Biology teacher license test?

Yes. The question bank has 54 past questions, 33 from the 1447 AH recall sets and 21 from 1446 AH, each reviewed and every option explained. But recall sets are not spread across the domains the way the test is: most are in life processes and immunity (14) and fewest in the history and nature of biology (4), although it weighs 13%. So practise every domain by its weight, not the recall sets alone.

What is the difference between the Biology test and the Science 2 test?

Science 2 is the test for intermediate school science teachers, and biology is one of its domains at 20%, next to chemistry and physics (25% each) and earth and space science (10%). The Biology test is all biology: seven domains and 12 standards, the largest being life processes, immunity and disease (21%). Choose the test that matches the subject of the job you are applying for.

Does the Biology test have calculation questions?

A few, mostly in genetics: offspring ratios in monohybrid crosses and sex-linked traits, and base pairing in DNA. You solve them with a Punnett square on paper, and calculators are not allowed. One example from the ETEC guide: if one DNA strand reads AACTTG, the complementary strand is TTGAAC.

Is the subject test enough to get the license?

No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.

How long are the result and the license valid?

A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: History and Nature of Biology and Its Links to Other Sciences

Summary

This unit carries about 11 of the 88 questions, roughly 13% of the exam. It has three parts. The first (standard 6.8.1) covers the nature of science and the history of biology: the features of science, contributions of scholars from Islamic civilisation, key discoveries and tools, and the difference between a fact, concept, principle, law and theory. The second (standard 6.8.2) covers the scientific method and its ethics: the steps of the method, variables and the control group, accuracy, precision and sources of error, evaluating sources of knowledge, and research ethics. The third (standard 6.8.10) covers how biology links to other fields, its uses in agriculture, medicine and industry, and controversial issues discussed within Islamic legal guidelines. Questions here are mostly direct and test exact terminology more than memorisation.

What the exam focuses on

  • Features of science: open to revision, based on sensory evidence, and neutral (6.8.1, indicator 1).
  • Scholars of Islamic civilisation and what each contributed: Ibn al-Nafis, al-Zahrawi, Ibn Sina, al-Jahiz, Ibn al-Baytar (indicator 3).
  • Historical and technical milestones: the microscope, Hooke's term 'cell', cell theory, Pasteur's experiments, the structure of DNA (indicator 4).
Show 5 more
  • Telling fact, concept, principle, law and theory apart, with a biology example of each (indicator 5).
  • Variables: independent, dependent and controlled, and the role of the control group (6.8.2, indicator 2).
  • Accuracy, precision and sources of error in measurement (indicator 4).
  • Evaluating sources of scientific knowledge, where peer-reviewed journals rank above general websites (indicator 5).
  • Research ethics and controversial issues: informed consent, animal-research ethics, cloning, and Islamic legal guidelines (6.8.2 indicator 6, and 6.8.10).

Common traps

  • A hypothesis is a testable proposed explanation. It is not an established fact and not a theory.
  • In science a theory is a broad explanation backed by a large body of evidence and open to revision. It is neither 'just a guess' nor an unchangeable absolute truth.
  • A law describes what happens, often in a general or mathematical form. A theory explains why it happens. A theory does not become a law once it is proven.
Show 5 more
  • The control group keeps every condition the same except the independent variable, so it isolates that variable's effect. It is not a group where factors are changed.
  • Accuracy is how close a measurement is to the true value. Precision is how close repeated measurements are to each other. A result can be precise but not accurate.
  • The independent variable is what the researcher changes. The dependent variable is what is measured as the result. Do not swap them.
  • The scientific method is not a rigid recipe that always starts with a hypothesis. The usual starting point is noticing a problem or making an observation, then asking a question.
  • Controversial issues such as cloning, evolution and sperm banks are discussed in the exam within Islamic legal and ethical guidelines, not by personal opinion.

What is the difference between a hypothesis and a theory?

A hypothesis is a testable proposed explanation. A theory is a broad explanation backed by much evidence and open to revision.

What does the control group do in an experiment?

It is the comparison for the experimental group, so it isolates the effect of the independent variable alone.

What are the independent and dependent variables?

The independent variable is changed deliberately by the researcher. The dependent variable is what is measured to see the effect.

How do accuracy and precision differ in measurement?

Accuracy is closeness to the true value. Precision is closeness of repeated measurements to each other.

Which Muslim scholar described the pulmonary circulation?

Ibn al-Nafis.

Who wrote 'The Book of Animals', and who wrote 'The Canon of Medicine'?

'The Book of Animals' is by al-Jahiz, and 'The Canon of Medicine' is by Ibn Sina.

Who first used the word 'cell', and what did he examine?

Robert Hooke in 1665, examining a thin slice of cork under a microscope.

What are the three parts of cell theory?

All organisms are made of one or more cells, the cell is the unit of structure and function, and cells arise from existing cells.
