Where other sources differ

  • The test is broad: nine domains running from nutrition and first aid to clothing, housing and grooming, and no domain is above 18%. Focusing on one domain is not enough; the four 10% domains alone make up 40% of the test.
  • Some standards are specific to Saudi Arabia: traditional dress across the Kingdom's regions, productive-family projects with their funding bodies and Vision 2030, state services for family breakdown, and the premarital screening programme.

How to register

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the subject test in family education during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
  3. Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
  4. Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are there in the Family Education test and how long is it?

88 multiple-choice questions with four options, in 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams are the same length.

Can I try Teacher License – Family Education questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this Teacher License – Family Education question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 475 explained questions across 9 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the pass mark?

The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.

What does the test cover and how is it weighted?

20 standards in nine domains, according to the candidate guide: Food and Nutrition 18%, Family and Society 14%, Human Development 14%, then Safety, Clothing and Textiles, Housing and Interior Design, and Personal Care and Grooming at 10% each, Consumer Awareness 9%, and Teaching and Learning 5%.

Which part of the test is the largest?

Food and Nutrition at 18%, about 16 of the 88 questions. It has three standards: nutrition basics, meal planning and working out needs, and preparing and preserving food. Together with Family and Society and Human Development (14% each), these three come close to half the test.

Is the test only for women teachers?

Yes. ETEC's guide and standards are addressed to women teachers of family education, since the subject is taught in girls' schools. It is a single test with no levels, and the subject's older name is home economics.

When is the next test?

The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.

Does the test include calculations?

A few, without a calculator. The standards ask you to work out ideal weight, calories and nutrient amounts, the strength of salt and sugar solutions used to preserve food, and how a family budget splits into percentages. One of the practice questions in ETEC's guide asks what share of a monthly income is left for savings.

Is the subject test enough to get the license?

No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.

How long are the result and the license valid?

A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: Family and Society

Summary

The Family and Society unit makes up about 12 of the 88 questions on the Family Education subject test, roughly 14% of the score. It has three sections. Standard 6.23.1 covers the family as a social system, its functions and the factors that affect them, marriage and its foundations, the causes and effects of divorce, and state services that address family breakdown. Standard 6.23.2 covers self-development, the heaviest section, including self-confidence, self-image, active listening, etiquette, managing emotions, and shyness. Standard 6.23.3 covers communication and relationships, the causes and management of conflict, emotional intelligence, leadership and team building, and coping with life stress. Most questions are scenario-based: a family or workplace situation, then a question on the right concept or approach.

What the exam focuses on

  • Family functions and how to classify them: biological, economic, educational, social, emotional and religious, and how they change across the family life cycle (6.23.1, indicator 1).
  • Marriage in the Quran and Sunnah: affection, mercy and tranquility, choosing a spouse on religion and character, mutual consent, and the rights and duties of each spouse (6.23.1, indicators 7 and 8).
  • Causes of divorce and its effects on children, and state family reconciliation and counseling services, including the National Family Safety Program (6.23.1, indicators 9 and 10).
Show 5 more
  • Active listening: paying attention, paraphrasing, showing empathy, not interrupting, and how it resolves conflict that comes from misunderstanding (6.23.2, indicator 2).
  • Self-confidence and self-image, ways to build confidence and overcome shyness and introversion, and managing emotions at home and at work (6.23.2, indicators 1, 10 and 12).
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication, barriers to communication, and ways to overcome them (6.23.2, indicator 11, and 6.23.3, indicator 7).
  • Conflict management: its causes, how similarity and difference between people affect it, the steps of problem solving and decision making, and the community sectors that support it (6.23.3, indicators 8 to 11).
  • Emotional intelligence, leadership and team building, and a plan for coping with life stress (6.23.3, indicators 12 to 14).

Common traps

  • Mixing up the nuclear and the extended family: nuclear means a couple and their children; extended adds grandparents, uncles, aunts or other relatives living together or close by.
  • Confusing shyness with introversion: shyness is fear of being judged and can hold a person back from what they want; introversion is a preference for quiet and less social stimulation, not necessarily fear.
  • Confusing hearing with active listening: hearing is receiving sound; active listening is full attention plus paraphrasing and checking understanding, not just staying silent or giving quick advice.
Show 5 more
  • Confusing communication styles: an assertive person states a view and respects others', a passive person gives up their rights, an aggressive person imposes theirs. The best answer is usually the assertive one.
  • Choosing avoiding or forcing in conflict. Collaboration (win-win) fits best when both the relationship and the outcome matter; accommodating or avoiding suit only limited situations.
  • Mixing preventive and remedial steps for divorce and family breakdown: premarital counseling and learning dialogue skills are prevention; reconciliation and mediation after a dispute begins are remedy.
  • Confusing emotional intelligence with academic intelligence: emotional intelligence means understanding and managing emotions and empathizing with others, not a measure of school achievement.
  • Confusing problem-focused and emotion-focused coping: planning and time management tackle the source of stress; relaxation, breathing and talking to someone close ease its effect.
