Frequently asked questions

How many questions are there and how long is the test?

75 multiple-choice questions with 80 minutes to answer, plus about 20 minutes for instructions and a questionnaire.

Can I try Trainer License questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the pass mark and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this Trainer License question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 75 questions in 80 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 417 explained questions across 10 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the pass mark?

ETEC's website states a pass mark of 55 or above.

What does the test cover?

It measures the Professional Standards for Trainers: four domains (Professional Knowledge 31%, Professional Practice 27%, Professional Values and Responsibilities 21%, Future Skills 21%) made up of ten main standards.

Which language can I take the test in?

The test is offered in Arabic and English. It is a computer-based test at ETEC centres, not taken remotely.

How long is the license valid?

Five years from the issue date if the license is issued within one calendar year of passing the test; otherwise five years from the end of that year. Renewal can be requested in the final year of validity.

What is the difference between the general and specialised licenses?

There is one test for everyone. The general license covers fields that have no specialised license; a specialised license covers one field under that sector regulator's requirements, and you can hold several specialised licenses while your test result is valid.

Is the ETEC trainer license the same as the TVTC "Certified Trainer" (مدرب معتمد) license?

No, they are two different licenses from two different bodies: the Trainers' Professional License is issued by ETEC to anyone who wants to practise training in the government, private or non-profit sector, after passing a 75-question test, while the "Certified Trainer" license is issued by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) for delivering TVTC-approved courses through a training facility that TVTC has licensed. Each has its own conditions and fees; ETEC charges SAR 100 for the test and SAR 200 per license, according to the Trainers' Professional Licenses page on the ETEC website (etec.gov.sa) and TVTC's rules for the Certified Trainer license (tvtc.gov.sa). ETEC says professional certificates and memberships do not replace its license, and neither does the TVTC license.

Do sports coaches or personal trainers need this license?

ETEC says the license is required for anyone who wants to practise training in Saudi Arabia, and sports training has a specialised license whose conditions the Ministry of Sport set in 2025: a bachelor's degree in physical education, sport science or sport management, at least two years' experience in sports coaching, and proof of English (STEP 60, IELTS 4.0 or TOEFL 45 out of 120), on top of passing the same test. The requirements file is published on the Trainers' Professional Licenses page of the ETEC website (etec.gov.sa); the specialised license service requires you to issue the general license first, and each license costs SAR 200.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and not affiliated with ETEC or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: Knowing the Trainee and Training Principles

Summary

This standard sits in Domain 1, Professional Knowledge, and tests whether the trainer understands the trainee and the foundations of training before planning or delivering it. It accounts for about 8 of the 75 exam questions. It has two sub-standards. Sub-standard 1.1 covers trainee characteristics and learning theories: behaviorist, cognitive, constructivist, social, adult learning (andragogy) and experiential learning and how to apply them in training; the characteristics of trainees at different ages and in different groups, including gifted trainees and trainees with disabilities; and the effect of individual differences, learning styles, backgrounds and prior experience. Sub-standard 1.2 covers training concepts, components, principles and models: the key terms as defined in the Professional Standards for Trainers, the difference between training, education and development, training as a system of inputs, processes, outputs and feedback, and models such as ADDIE and Kirkpatrick and how to use them.

What the exam focuses on

  • Distinguish the major learning theories by how they view learning and the trainer's role: behaviorism (stimulus, response, reinforcement), cognitivism (information processing), constructivism (actively building knowledge) and social learning (observation and modeling) (indicator 1.1.1).
  • Knowles' assumptions of adult learning (andragogy) and what they mean in the training room: explain why the learning matters, respect autonomy, build on experience and tie content to real work problems (indicator 1.1.1).
  • Kolb's experiential learning cycle, its four stages and their order, and how it becomes activity, then reflection, then generalization, then application (indicator 1.1.1).
Show 5 more
  • The characteristics of trainees at different ages and in different groups, including gifted trainees and trainees with disabilities, and how the trainer adapts activities, pacing and support accordingly (indicator 1.1.2).
  • Accommodating individual differences, learning styles, backgrounds and prior experience by varying methods and activities and using trainees' experience as a learning resource (indicator 1.1.3).
  • The key terms as defined in the Professional Standards for Trainers: training, trainer, trainee, learning outcomes, training model and training experiences (indicator 1.2.1).
  • Training as a system of inputs, processes, outputs and feedback, and the difference between training, education and development (indicator 1.2.1).
  • The core training models and how to apply them: the five ADDIE phases in order, and Kirkpatrick's four levels for evaluating training impact (indicator 1.2.2).

Common traps

  • If an option mentions working memory, encoding, chunking or advance organizers, it belongs to cognitivism, not behaviorism; behaviorism focuses on observable behavior and reinforcement.
  • Do not mix up three related theories: constructivism (Piaget), where learners build knowledge through experience; social constructivism (Vygotsky), where knowledge is built through interaction, the zone of proximal development and scaffolding; and social learning (Bandura), based on observation, modeling and self-efficacy.
  • Negative reinforcement is not punishment: it removes an unpleasant stimulus to increase a behavior, whereas punishment aims to weaken a behavior.
Show 5 more
  • In andragogy, adults' motivation is mostly internal and their orientation is problem-centered, not subject-centered; an option describing a learner who depends fully on the teacher and learns for grades describes pedagogy (teaching children).
  • Accommodating learning styles (such as visual, auditory and kinesthetic) means varying methods for all trainees, not labeling each trainee with a fixed style; these are common classifications, not settled scientific facts.
  • Training targets specific knowledge and skills for the current job and predefined outcomes; education builds a broader general knowledge base; development focuses on professional growth and future roles. Do not pick education for a question about improving performance in a specific task.
  • In ADDIE, Analysis comes first and identifies the need and gap; Design sets objectives, strategies and the assessment plan; Development produces the actual materials. Evaluation is not only at the end: it is formative throughout every phase and summative after implementation.
  • In Kirkpatrick's model, Level 1 (Reaction) measures satisfaction, not learning; Level 3 (Behavior) measures transfer to the workplace; Level 4 (Results) measures organizational impact. Return on investment is an extension of Level 4, not one of the original four levels.

How do the Professional Standards for Trainers define training?

A mechanism for developing individuals' competence to achieve predefined learning or training outcomes, covering in-person (theoretical and practical) and distance training.

Who does the term trainee include in the standards?

Anyone who receives training and takes part in its activities, across all groups, including people with disabilities and gifted trainees.

What is the core idea of behaviorism, and who are its main figures?

Learning is an observable change in behavior from stimulus-response links, strengthened by reinforcement; key figures are Pavlov, Thorndike and Skinner.

What is the zone of proximal development, and who proposed it?

The gap between what a learner can do alone and what they can do with help from someone more skilled; proposed by Vygotsky.

What is scaffolding?

Graduated support the trainer provides and then gradually withdraws as the trainee becomes able to perform independently.

What is Bandura's social learning theory based on?

Learning through observation, imitation and modeling, with self-efficacy, the learner's belief in their ability, playing a key role.

List Knowles' six assumptions of adult learning.

Need to know, self-directed self-concept, role of experience, readiness to learn, problem-centered orientation, and internal motivation.

What are the stages of Kolb's experiential learning cycle, in order?

Concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, then active experimentation.
