Last verified: 30 October 2026. Your test date and the days left are shown at the top of this page; our source is the Trainers' Professional Licenses page on the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) website. This guide is independent: it is not affiliated with ETEC or any government body.

In short: in the last week, review the standards by how many questions they carry: Standard 2 (training modes, strategies and assessment) first, as it is 15 of the 75 questions, then Standard 10, then 1 and 3. Two days before your test sit a full mock (75 questions in 80 minutes), and keep the day before for the candidate guide's practice questions and the common traps.

Three facts before you start

  • Time: 75 questions in 80 minutes, about 64 seconds a question, and most questions are training scenarios.
  • Pass mark: ETEC's page says 55 or above, not 70 as some sites say. Aim for a comfortable margin above it in your mocks.
  • The answer comes from the document: questions are built on the indicators in the Professional Standards for Trainers, so the right answer is what the document says, not what you are used to in the room.

The plan, day by day

Days count down to your test date. If you have fewer than seven days, start from the day that fits, and keep the full mock two days before the test.

DayWhat to studyWhere to practise
7 days beforeStandard 2: Training Modes, Strategies and Assessment Types (15 questions): synchronous and asynchronous, blended and flipped, when each strategy fits, and diagnostic, formative and summative assessment.Practise Standard 2
6 days beforeStandard 10: Thinking and Digital Skills (10 questions), then Standard 1: Knowing the Trainee and Training Principles (8): learning theories and adult learning principles.Standard 10, Standard 1
5 days beforeStandard 3: Planning Training and Designing Learning Experiences (8 questions): needs analysis, learning outcomes and revised Bloom's taxonomy, then Standard 4: Delivering Training (6): handling different kinds of trainee.Standard 3, Standard 4
4 days beforeStandard 5: Evaluating Training (6 questions): Kirkpatrick's four levels, then Standard 6: Professional Ethics and National Training Regulations (6) with the Trainers' Professional License Regulations.Standard 5, Standard 6
3 days beforeStandards 8 and 9 (6 questions each) and 7 (4), then redo every question you got wrong this week.Standard 8, Standard 9, Standard 7, Your wrong answers
2 days beforeA full mock: 75 questions in 80 minutes in one sitting. Rank the standards by your mistakes and redo your two weakest the same day.Full mock exam
The day beforeDo the 15 practice questions in the candidate guide against the clock, and review the traps below and the Standard 2 flashcards. Then get ready and sleep early.Standard 2 flashcards, Test day

Traps to review on the last day

  • A pre-test is diagnostic, not formative.
  • Negative reinforcement is not punishment.
  • The top level of revised Bloom's taxonomy is "create", not "evaluate".
  • Kirkpatrick's model has four levels (reaction, learning, behaviour, results); return on investment is a fifth level added by Phillips.
  • In brainstorming, ideas are not judged while they are being generated, and not every performance gap is a training need.

10 questions are free, and the free practice test shows your weakest standards. The full question bank and timed full mocks come with a 7-day or lifetime pass for this exam (pricing); a 7-day pass covers this week.

If you have more than a week, read the full study plan; for the standards and their weights, see the syllabus guide. This plan is a suggestion for organising your time and does not guarantee a score; your mock results estimate readiness and are not official results.
