Where other sources differ

  • The pass mark is a scaled score of 536 on a 200 to 800 scale, not a percentage of correct answers. Up to 10% of the questions may be unscored pilot items.

How to register

  1. Check eligibility: a pharmacy degree from an accredited programme, or being in your internship year, or a student one year from graduation. Students at Saudi universities can sit it in their final year.
  2. Apply through the SCFHS e-application and confirm that you have read the applicant guide.
  3. Once your application is processed, you receive a scheduling permit by email with your eligibility period.
  4. Book a date at an SCFHS-approved Prometric centre in Saudi Arabia or abroad; booking opens up to three months ahead, within the monthly test windows.
  5. Arrive early with your scheduling permit (paper or on your phone) and a valid passport or Saudi ID or residence card in the same name. Arriving more than 30 minutes late, or not showing up, counts as an attempt.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are on the SPLE and how long is it?

200 multiple-choice questions with four options, in two parts of 100 questions and 120 minutes each, with a 30-minute break. It is computer-based at Prometric centres.

Can I try SPLE Pharmacist Exam questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end you get your score and your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this SPLE Pharmacist Exam question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 200 questions in 240 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 1032 explained questions across 4 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the SPLE pass mark?

536 on a 200 to 800 scale, set by SCFHS after a standard-setting study with Saudi pharmacists. It is a scaled score, not a percentage.

What are the sections and their weights?

Basic Biomedical Sciences 10%, Pharmaceutical Sciences 35%, Social, Behavioral and Administrative Sciences 20% and Clinical Sciences 35%. The split may vary by up to 5% at each level.

Are the questions here in English like the exam?

Yes. The question and options are in English as in the exam, and every option is explained in Arabic and English. You can switch any question to an Arabic translation with one tap.

How many times can I retake it?

Up to 4 times a year until you pass, and not twice in the same test window. A no-show or arriving more than 30 minutes late counts as an attempt.

When do results come out?

Not straight away. SCFHS announces them 2 to 6 weeks after the test window closes, with a report comparing you with other candidates.

Who is eligible?

Graduates of an accredited pharmacy programme, interns, or students one year from graduation. Students at Saudi universities can sit it in their final year.

What do I get for free?

10 free questions covering all four sections with no sign-up, after which you see your score and your weakest section, plus the first unit's study notes.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: Basic Biomedical Sciences

Summary

Basic Biomedical Sciences makes up about 10% of the exam, roughly 20 of the 200 questions. It has four sections: physiology, covering homeostasis and the function of the major organ systems; biochemistry, covering macromolecules, metabolism, enzymes, signal transduction and the flow of genetic information; microbiology, covering microbial structure, the main human pathogens and how they spread; and immunology, covering innate and adaptive immunity, antibody actions, hypersensitivity and the basics of pharmacogenomics. This material is the foundation for explaining drug mechanisms and adverse effects in the other units, so its concepts also appear inside pharmacology and therapeutics questions.

What the exam focuses on

  • Negative versus positive feedback, with an example of each.
  • Cardiovascular relationships: cardiac output = heart rate × stroke volume, and the Frank-Starling mechanism.
  • Renal function, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and the effect of ADH.
Show 5 more
  • Enzyme kinetics: Km and Vmax, and competitive versus noncompetitive inhibition.
  • Signal transduction: G-protein-coupled receptors and second messengers (cAMP and IP3).
  • Gram staining and cell wall structure, and bacterial versus human ribosomes.
  • The five immunoglobulin classes and what each does, and hypersensitivity types I to IV.
  • Pharmacogenomic examples: CYP2D6, CYP2C19, HLA-B*57:01, HLA-B*15:02 and TPMT.

Common traps

  • Confusing positive and negative feedback: most body systems use negative feedback, and positive feedback is the exception (oxytocin in labor, clotting).
  • Mixing up respiratory and metabolic acidosis: a high PaCO2 means respiratory acidosis, and low bicarbonate means metabolic acidosis.
  • Assuming competitive inhibition changes Vmax: competitive inhibition raises Km and leaves Vmax unchanged, while noncompetitive inhibition lowers Vmax.
Show 5 more
  • Thinking Gram-positive bacteria have an outer membrane: the outer membrane and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) belong to Gram-negative bacteria.
  • Mixing up IgM and IgG: IgM is the first response and is a pentamer, while IgG is the most abundant in serum and crosses the placenta.
  • Confusing type II and type III hypersensitivity: type II is antibody against cell-surface antigens, and type III is deposited immune complexes.
  • Treating type IV hypersensitivity as antibody-mediated: it is T-cell-mediated and delayed (for example the tuberculin skin test).
  • Confusing the gene with its effect: poor CYP2C19 activity weakens activation of clopidogrel because it is a prodrug, and poor CYP2D6 activity weakens conversion of codeine to morphine.

What is the formula for cardiac output?

Heart rate × stroke volume.

Which hormone raises collecting duct water permeability?

ADH (vasopressin).

What does angiotensin II do?

Constricts vessels and stimulates aldosterone release.

Where does glycolysis occur and what is the net ATP?

In the cytosol; net 2 ATP per glucose.

Competitive inhibitor: effect on Km and Vmax?

Km increases; Vmax is unchanged.

What does Gs signaling do?

Activates adenylyl cyclase and raises cAMP.

Which enzyme is rate-limiting in cholesterol synthesis?

HMG-CoA reductase (inhibited by statins).

Bacterial versus human ribosome size?

Bacterial 70S (30S + 50S); human 80S.
