Where other sources differ

  • The geography test is a single test (23 standards in 6 domains); it does not have two levels like science and maths.
  • Some websites split geography questions into seven sections with “calculation problems” as a separate one. ETEC's guide has six domains, calculation is part of the cartography domain (10%), and the largest domain is skills, teaching and learning resources (23%), not physical geography.

How to register

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the subject test in geography during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
  3. Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
  4. Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are there in the Geography test and how long is it?

88 multiple-choice questions with four options, in 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our mock exams are the same length.

Can I try Teacher License – Geography questions for free?

Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.

What makes this Teacher License – Geography question bank different?

Question bank: full mock exams of 88 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 484 explained questions across 6 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.

What is the pass mark?

The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.

What does the test cover and how is it weighted?

23 standards in six domains, according to the candidate guide: Geographic Skills, Research Methods, Teaching and Learning Resources 23%, Human Geography 22%, Physical Geography 21%, Regional Geography 20%, Cartography and Geographic Information Technology 10%, and Geographic Theory, Its Development and Branches 4%.

Is there a Geography 1 and Geography 2?

No. ETEC publishes one guide and one set of standards for geography, unlike science, maths and English, which each have two levels. The geography test is a single test with its own 23 standards.

When is the next test?

The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.

Are there recall sets (tajmi'at) for the Geography teacher license test?

Yes. The question bank has 35 past questions from the 1446 AH recall sets, each reviewed and every option explained. But recall sets are not spread across the domains the way the test is: most are in physical geography (11) and fewest in skills, teaching and learning resources (2), although it is the largest domain at 23%. So practise every domain by its weight, not the recall sets alone.

What is the difference between the Geography test and the Social Studies test?

Social studies (al-ijtima'iyyat) and history each have their own test with their own guide and standards. The Geography test is all geography: six domains and 23 standards, the largest being geographic skills, teaching and learning resources (23%). Choose the test that matches the subject of the job you are applying for.

Does the Geography test have calculation questions?

A few, mostly on maps: converting distances with a map scale, time differences between longitudes (one hour per 15 degrees), and population rates such as density and growth. You solve them on paper, and calculators are not allowed. One example from the ETEC guide: a road 5 centimetres long on a 1:100,000 map is 5 kilometres long on the ground.

Is the subject test enough to get the license?

No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.

Is my mock exam score an official result?

No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.

How long are the result and the license valid?

A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.

Is this an official site, and how do I pay?

It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.

Study material sample: Geographic Theory, Its Development and Branches

Summary

This unit carries about 4 of the 88 questions, weighted at 4% in the ETEC guide, and rests on a single standard, 6.12.1, with four indicators. The first covers the meaning of geography, its different definitions and its aims. The second covers how geography developed across successive civilisations, from the Greeks to modern geography and its schools, including determinism and possibilism. The third covers the role of Muslims in developing geography and the reasons behind it. The fourth covers the classification of geography's branches and their link to other sciences. The unit has few questions, but they depend on matching a scholar or school to its idea, which the points and flashcards below cover.

What the exam focuses on

  • The difference between the natural and the cultural environment: the cultural environment is the interaction between people and their natural surroundings (6.12.1, indicator 2, guide sample question).
  • Determinism (Ratzel) versus possibilism (Vidal de la Blache): who controls the relationship, the environment or the people (indicator 2).
  • Greek contributions: Eratosthenes (measuring Earth's circumference and using the term geography) and Ptolemy (the grid of longitude and latitude) (indicator 2).
Show 4 more
  • The works of Muslim geographers and their authors: al-Idrisi, Ibn Battuta, Yaqut al-Hamawi, al-Masudi, al-Muqaddasi (indicator 3).
  • The factors that pushed Muslims toward geography: Hajj, trade, expansion, administration, and finding the qibla and directions (indicator 3).
  • Dividing geography into physical and human and placing each branch under the right one (indicator 4).
  • Linking each branch to its related science: geology and geomorphology, meteorology and climatology, botany and biogeography (indicator 4).

Common traps

  • Mixing up determinism and possibilism: determinism says the environment determines human behaviour, possibilism says it offers options and people choose among them.
  • Choosing «ecosystem analysis» or «central place theory» for the human-environment relationship: the first studies the elements of a living system and the second is a theory of how settlements are distributed. The answer is the cultural environment.
  • Confusing Eratosthenes with Ptolemy: the first measured Earth's circumference from the Sun's shadow at Alexandria and Syene, the second set out the coordinate grid in his book Geographia.
Show 5 more
  • Confusing Humboldt with Ritter: Humboldt focused on natural phenomena and their links in Kosmos, Ritter on comparing regions and the relation of people to the land.
  • Mixing up the Muslim geographers' works: Nuzhat al-Mushtaq is al-Idrisi's, the Rihla is Ibn Battuta's, Mu'jam al-Buldan is Yaqut's, Muruj al-Dhahab is al-Masudi's.
  • Saying Muslims started geography from nothing: their contribution built on translating the Greek heritage, then correcting it and adding travel, field observation and measurement.
  • Placing cartography and GIS under human geography: they are tools and techniques that serve both branches, not a human branch.
  • Confusing regional with systematic geography: regional studies all the phenomena of one area, systematic studies one phenomenon worldwide.
