Where other sources differ
- ETEC's guide for this test is addressed to kindergarten teachers and covers the kindergarten stage only; teachers of grades one to three take the separate Early Grades test.
- The guide's text gives growth and learning 25%, but its weights table adds the six standards up to 26%; we follow the table.
How to register
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
- Register for the kindergarten subject test during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
- Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
- Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

What is the difference between the Kindergarten test and the Early Grades test?
They are separate specialties, each with its own ETEC guide and standards. The Kindergarten test is for teachers at the kindergarten stage before first grade and measures 20 standards on child growth and learning, the kindergarten environment, child health and safety, and partnership with families. The Early Grades test is for teachers of grades one to three. This bank is for the Kindergarten test.
What is the pass mark?
The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.
What does the test cover and how is it weighted?
20 standards in eight domains, according to the candidate guide: growth and learning 26%, interaction and guidance 14%, teaching and learning 13%, learning environment 13%, child health and safety 10%, then assessment, partnership with family and community, and professional development at 8% each.
Which part of the test is the largest?
Growth and learning at 26%, about 23 of the 88 questions. It has six standards: children's development and needs, emotional and social development, psychomotor development, language development, cognitive development, and early detection of developmental delay. Starting there covers about a quarter of the test.
When is the next test?
The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.
Are the questions classroom situations or theory?
Most of ETEC's sample questions are kindergarten situations: a teacher notices a child behind with scissors, or children lose focus during circle time, and you choose the best response. The test also has direct knowledge questions, such as the right length of circle time for a four-year-old, or Piaget's stages.
Is the subject test enough to get the license?
No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.
Is my mock exam score an official result?
No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.
How long are the result and the license valid?
A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.
Is this an official site, and how do I pay?
It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.
Study material sample: Domains of Development and Learning
Summary
This domain is the largest in the Kindergarten test: about 26% of the score, roughly 23 of the 88 questions. It has six standards. The first covers principles of whole-child development, individual differences, influencing factors and development and learning theories. The second covers emotional and social development: self-confidence, friendships and expressing feelings. The third covers psychomotor development: gross and fine muscles and sensory-motor coordination. The fourth (6%) covers language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The fifth (6%) covers cognitive development: thinking skills, inquiry and open questions. The sixth covers early detection of developmental delay and referral. Most questions are classroom scenarios, so you need to link the situation to a developmental feature, a theory or the right action.
What the exam focuses on
- Development principles: growth is holistic, integrated and sequential, its pace differs between children, and both heredity and environment shape it (indicators 2-4 of standard 1).
- The most tested theories: Piaget (preoperational stage, ages 2-7), Vygotsky (zone of proximal development and scaffolding), Erikson, Maslow and Parten (indicator 8 of standard 1).
- Parten's play stages: unoccupied, onlooker, solitary, parallel, associative, cooperative; parallel play means playing side by side without real interaction.
Show 5 more
- Emotional and social development: Erikson's initiative versus guilt (ages 3-6), the basis of friendship at ages 4-7 (sharing play and toys), and expressing feelings without hurting others (standard 2).
- Psychomotor development: gross muscles develop before fine muscles, and growth runs from head to toe and from the center outward (indicator 1 of standard 3).
- Language: the teacher models Modern Standard Arabic, listening has three types (attentive, analytical, appreciative), daily read-alouds, and reading and writing used in functional situations (indicators 5, 10, 12 and 14 of standard 4).
- Cognitive development: open questions, and training in basic thinking (memory, observation, classification), higher thinking (analysis, evaluation, innovation) and scientific inquiry (indicators 8, 9, 12 and 16 of standard 5).
- Early detection: the teacher observes, documents and refers to a specialist and does not diagnose herself; early intervention and cooperation with the special education teacher (indicators 3, 10 and 11 of standard 6).
Common traps
- Mixing up parallel and cooperative play: in parallel play each child plays with his own toy beside others, in cooperative play they share roles toward a common goal.
- Believing the mother contributes more genetically than the father: each parent gives 23 chromosomes, so the statement is false.
- Confusing the levels of Maslow's hierarchy: a hungry, tired or dirty child is threatened first in physiological needs, which come before belonging or esteem.
Show 5 more
- Treating individual differences as delay: normal variation in pace is not delay; developmental delay calls for observation, documentation and referral.
- Confusing recall with creation: memory, observation and classification are basic thinking skills, while analysis, evaluation and innovation are higher ones.
- Choosing a closed question over an open one: a yes/no or single-fact question does not build thinking, while an open question asks for a description, explanation or prediction.
- The teacher diagnosing: diagnosing a disability or delay belongs to specialists, and giving a child a diagnostic test requires the parent's written consent.
- Starting with a psychological explanation for a sudden physical symptom: for a behavior such as sudden bedwetting, the first step is to rule out organic causes (a medical check).

Which Piaget stage are kindergarten children in?
The preoperational stage, from about 2 to 7 years.
What is Vygotsky's zone of proximal development?
The gap between what a child can do alone and what he can do with help from someone more capable.
What is Erikson's crisis at ages 3-6?
Initiative versus guilt.
Which need is met first in Maslow's hierarchy?
Physiological needs, such as food, sleep and cleanliness.
What is parallel play in Parten's scheme?
Children play side by side with the same or similar toys without real interaction.
What is the first sign of social development in an infant?
The responsive social smile.
Which develops faster: gross or fine muscles?
Gross muscles, because growth goes from general to specific and from the center to the limbs.
How many chromosomes does each parent give a child?
23, so neither parent contributes more than the other.
