Where other sources differ
- The Social Studies test is not the History test or the Geography test: each has its own guide and standards. The social studies standards are written for primary-school teachers and combine history, geography, citizenship education and teaching methods.
- Some websites split social studies questions into twelve sections, none of them citizenship. In ETEC's guide citizenship education is a domain of its own weighing 12%, about 9 of the 75 questions.
How to register
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal (e-services.etec.gov.sa) and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
- Register for the subject test in social studies during the announced registration window and pay the fee (SAR 100).
- Your profile shows whether your subject's test is on paper or on computer. After paying you can change or delete the booking up to 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test.
- Sit the test with a valid ID: national ID for Saudis or iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence. Calculators are not allowed.
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced; it stays valid for five years. The license needs both the subject test and the General Educational Test, its level is set by the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, and issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions are there in the Social Studies test and how long is it?
75 multiple-choice questions with four options, in 120 minutes (two hours). Calculators are not allowed and the test is in Arabic. Our full mock exam is the same length.
Can I try Teacher License – Social Studies questions for free?
Yes. Free questions: a 10-question diagnostic test covering the main units, no sign-up; at the end we compare your score with the license levels 50 (Practitioner), 70 (Advanced) and 80 (Expert), tell you how many questions you are short of the next level, and show your weakest units. The free practice test page lists the same questions with answers and an explanation for every option. The rest of the questions and the full mock exams come with a pass from SAR 26.
What makes this Teacher License – Social Studies question bank different?
Question bank: full mock exams of 75 questions in 120 minutes, like the real test with a result for every unit, plus 425 explained questions across 4 units, every option explained, a review of your mistakes, and two ways to practise: see the answer right away, or sit a full timed mock. Every question is reviewed and referenced, ready to practise on your phone. Try the free questions and read the explanations before buying full access.
What is the pass mark?
The minimum for a license is 50 (Practitioner Teacher), then 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 or above for Expert Teacher, under the Professional License Regulations (Article 4). The level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, together with your qualification and years of experience. Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty.
What does the test cover and how is it weighted?
According to the candidate guide: 13 standards in four domains: geography 42.7% (five standards, including Saudi geography and maps), history 36% (four standards, from the Prophet's life and the Rightly Guided Caliphs to the history of the Saudi state), citizenship education 12% (two standards: government and regulations, and national responsibility, security and values), and teaching methods and the curriculum 9.3% (two standards).
What is the difference between the Social Studies test and the History and Geography tests?
They are three separate tests, each with its own guide and standards. The Social Studies test combines history, geography, citizenship education and teaching methods in 13 standards, and its standards are written for the primary-school social studies teacher. The History and Geography tests each cover a single subject in more depth. In the Ministry of Education's guide to specialisations for teaching jobs, the social studies license is required for Social and National Education in primary school from teacher-preparation graduates in social studies, while holders of a bachelor's in history or geography need the license in their own subject, which is also the one required in intermediate and secondary school.
When is the next test?
The next sitting of the subject test is expected in late January 2027. The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens.
Does the Social Studies test have calculation questions?
A few, all in geography: converting a map scale, time differences between longitudes (one hour per 15 degrees), and population density (population ÷ area). You solve them on paper, and calculators are not allowed. One example from the ETEC guide: a country of 1,400,000 people over 700 km² has a density of 2,000 people per km².
Is the subject test enough to get the license?
No. The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the subject-specific test in your own field and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject. Each costs SAR 100, and the level uses the lower of the two scores, so a high score in one does not lift your level above your score in the other.
Is my mock exam score an official result?
No. Scores on this site are for practice only and are not an official result. This site is independent and is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas or any government body. They do show where you'd stand if the test were today: the full mock exam has the real question count and time, and your score is split by part of the exam so you can see where you lose points.
How long are the result and the license valid?
A subject-test result stays valid for five years from the date it is announced. The license itself is valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year, under the Professional License Regulations.
Is this an official site, and how do I pay?
It is an independent site, not part of Qiyas or any government body, and every question is reviewed before it is published. You pay once, with no automatic renewal, through Waffo Pancake (the merchant of record) by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your statement shows "WAFFO". If you were charged twice or the pass did not open, email support@saudiexams.com.
Study material sample: History
Summary
History accounts for about 27 of the 75 questions, or 36% of the Social Studies subject test. It has four standards. 6.38.1 covers the impact of figures and events: the Prophet's campaigns, the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the Saudi Imams and King Abdulaziz. 6.38.2 covers how events shaped societies: change after the rise of Islam, life before and after the Kingdom's founding, and customs that changed. 6.38.3 covers change across eras: telling the Islamic periods apart from pre-Islam, and the work of the kings from Saud to Abdullah. 6.38.4 covers cooperation and conflict: the Prophet and his Companions, the late-Rashidun strife, and King Salman's humanitarian work. Questions usually ask for a date, a name, or a cause and its result.
What the exam focuses on
- Figures of the first and second Saudi states: Imam Muhammad bin Saud (Diriyah, 1139 AH/1727), Imam Turki bin Abdullah (Riyadh as capital, 1240 AH) and Imam Faisal bin Turki (indicator 6.38.1-4).
- Stages of King Abdulaziz's unification: retaking Riyadh in 1319 AH/1902, the Darin Treaty in 1334 AH/1915, and the Kingdom's proclamation in 1351 AH/1932 (indicator 6.38.1-5).
- The order and effect of the Prophet's campaigns: Badr, Uhud, the Trench, Hudaybiyyah, Khaybar, the Conquest of Mecca, Hunayn and Tabuk (indicator 6.38.1-2).
Show 5 more
- What each Rightly Guided Caliph contributed: Abu Bakr (the wars of apostasy), Umar (conquests, the registers and the Hijri calendar), Uthman (unifying the Quran copies), Ali (indicator 6.38.1-3).
- Social change after the founding: security and stability, settling Bedouin communities, the growth of education, and customs that changed in festivals, weddings, dress, food and entertainment (indicators 6.38.2-3 and 6.38.2-4).
- The discovery of oil: the exploration concession in 1352 AH/1933, then the first commercial discovery in 1357 AH/1938, and its effect on the Kingdom's economy (indicator 6.38.2).
- Telling the eras apart: pre-Islam, the dawn of Islam, the early Islamic period and the age of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (indicator 6.38.3-2).
- The work of Kings Saud, Faisal, Khalid, Fahd and Abdullah in taking the Kingdom into the modern age, and King Salman's relief efforts (indicators 6.38.3-4 and 6.38.4-5).
Common traps
- Diriyah was the capital of the first Saudi state and Riyadh of the second. The sample question asks who made Riyadh the capital: the answer is Turki bin Abdullah, not Muhammad bin Saud or Faisal bin Turki.
- Riyadh was retaken twice: by Turki bin Abdullah in 1240 AH to found the second state, and by King Abdulaziz in 1319 AH/1902 to begin the unification. Do not mix up the dates or the men.
- Founding Day (22 February, 1139 AH/1727, the start of the first state) is not National Day (23 September, 1351 AH/1932, the proclamation of the unified Kingdom).
Show 5 more
- The Darin Treaty of 1334 AH/1915 was signed between King Abdulaziz and Britain, not the Ottoman state or Ibn Rashid. "The Ottoman state" is a common wrong option.
- The oil exploration concession (1352 AH/1933) is not the first commercial discovery (1357 AH/1938) or the first export (1358 AH/1939). A question about "granting the concession" is answered with 1352 AH/1933.
- Hudaybiyyah was a treaty, not a battle; the Conquest of Mecca was in 8 AH and Tabuk was the Prophet's last campaign in 9 AH. Keep the order: Badr 2, Uhud 3, the Trench 5, Hudaybiyyah 6, Khaybar 7.
- Do not credit one caliph with another's work: the wars of apostasy belong to Abu Bakr, the registers and the Hijri calendar to Umar, and copying and unifying the Quran to Uthman.
- Kings' achievements are often mixed up: the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Education under King Saud, the first five-year plan (1390 AH) under King Faisal, the Basic Law of Governance (1412 AH) under King Fahd, and KAUST (2009) under King Abdullah.
