Frequently asked questions
Is CAPM the same exam as PMP?
No. CAPM has its own four-domain outline for entry and associate-level project work.

Study material sample: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts
Summary
Distinguish project work and life cycles, plan resources and stakeholder engagement, clarify accountabilities, manage uncertainty, and choose useful problem-solving practices. Ethical duties apply throughout.
What the exam focuses on
- Identify the duty at stake before choosing an action.
- Classify the situation before selecting the plan or response.
- Distinguish technical completion from accepted transition to operations.
Show 2 more
- Use decision authority and evidence rather than job titles alone.
- Connect meetings, tools and risk records to a specific decision or action.
Common traps
- Disclosure alone does not authorize continued participation in a conflicted decision.
- A meeting ending on time does not prove its decision or follow-up was achieved.
- Risk responses include strategies besides mitigation. After a response is implemented, reassess the remaining exposure and continue monitoring where needed; implementation alone is not proof that a risk has disappeared.
Show 1 more
- Available headcount is different from available qualified capacity.

Project or operations?
A temporary endeavor creating a unique result versus continuing routine work. The project’s result may outlast the project.
Program or portfolio?
Related-project benefits versus selecting the strategic investment mix.
Risk plan or register?
The method versus specific identified risks and responses.
Effort versus duration?
Effort is the amount of work required; duration is the time an activity takes, considering resources, calendars and the nature of the work.
Useful action item?
An agreed action with an owner and a due date.
Affinity versus prioritization?
Group by relationships versus compare against criteria.
What makes handover ready?
An accepting operational owner with the needed knowledge and tools.
Charter versus detailed plan?
The charter establishes high-level authorization and boundaries; detailed planning elaborates how authorized work will be delivered.
