Where other sources differ

  • HRCI publishes percentage weights for the five functional areas, not item counts. Unit counts here are practice allocations based on those weights.
  • The real exam may include multiple-response, fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop and scenario items. This practice bank uses four-option single-answer questions only.
  • aPHRi is for HR practice outside the United States. Questions give the applicable local rule in the scenario when a legal fact matters.

How to register

  1. Create an HRCI account and submit the aPHRi application online. No HR experience is required.
  2. Pay the USD 100 application fee and the USD 300 exam fee. Use the name on your government-issued ID.
  3. After approval, schedule within 180 days with Pearson VUE, at a test centre or online through OnVUE.

Study material sample: HR Operations

Summary

HR Operations is the largest area (33% of scored items). It covers how HR supports strategy and culture, keeps records lawful and confidential, uses data and HR technology, documents jobs and reporting lines, and communicates clearly.

What the exam focuses on

  • Link an HR task to the organization's mission, values or goal before choosing an action.
  • Know the common HR metrics (turnover, time to fill, cost per hire, absence rate) and how to calculate them from given data.
  • Separate what belongs in a job description, a policy, a procedure and an employee file.

Common traps

  • Confidential does not mean hidden from everyone: share personal data only with people who have a business need to know.
  • A metric needs a stated denominator and period; a larger count can still be a lower rate.
  • Medical records are kept separate from the general personnel file.

  • aPHRi is international: do not assume one country's thresholds unless the question states the jurisdiction.

Best chart for a trend over 12 months?

A line chart.
