Fees and dates can change, so confirm everything on the Teachers' Professional License page on the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) website before you pay. This guide is independent: it is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas (the National Center for Assessment) or any government body, and it cannot register you.
The Teachers' Professional License needs two tests: the General Educational Test and the subject-specific test. You register and pay for each one separately. This guide focuses on the General Educational Test and mentions the subject test where it matters.
Fees
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| General Educational Test | SAR 100 |
| Subject-specific test | SAR 100 |
| Issuing or upgrading the license | SAR 100 |
The fee for issuing or upgrading the license is set in Article 9 of the Professional License Regulations for Educational Jobs.
How to register
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal and open your beneficiary profile (ملف المستفيد), or create an account if you do not have one. The older address that some articles still mention is no longer the one in use.
- Register for the General Educational Test during the announced registration window and choose your date.
- Pay the test fee (SAR 100) from your profile on the portal. ETEC's visual guide walks through paying the test fee "by bank cards or credit cards", and the window for changing your date applies once payment is complete.
- Sit the test on the day with a valid ID (see "Test day" below).
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced.
ETEC has published a visual registration guide for the General Educational Test with screenshots of creating an account, registering, paying, changing your date and viewing your result. We have not used the portal ourselves because it needs a login, so button names may differ slightly.
1448 AH test dates
These dates are as ETEC published them on the test page; ETEC's website is always the final word:
| Item | Date |
|---|---|
| General Educational Test | 6 and 7 November 2026 |
| Registration opens for teachers in service | 3 August 2026 for men, 10 August 2026 for women |
| Registration opens for candidates who did not pass | 5 August 2026 for men, 12 August 2026 for women |
| Registration opens for everyone | 9 August 2026 for men, 16 August 2026 for women |
| Late registration | From 4 October 2026 |
| Subject-specific test | 18 to 31 October 2026 |
Register early. ETEC's page also has a typo in the year for women who did not pass (it says 2025); it means 2026. The full table for each group, and the subject-test dates, are in General Educational Test dates 1448 AH.
Changing or cancelling your booking
After paying, you can change or delete your booking in your profile up to 72 hours before a paper test, which is what the General Educational Test is. For a computer-based subject test the cut-off is 48 hours.
Test day
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Delivery | Paper-based only |
| Time | Two hours for 88 questions |
| Language | Arabic |
| Calculator | Not allowed |
You can enter the test with any of these IDs:
- National ID for Saudis, or iqama for non-Saudis
- Passport
- Saudi driving licence
Results and levels
Scoring is criterion-referenced: score = correct answers ÷ number of questions × 100, with no penalty for wrong answers. The Regulations (Article 4) set the levels by these scores:
| Score | Level | Correct answers out of 88 |
|---|---|---|
| 50 to 69 | Practitioner Teacher | 44 or more |
| 70 to 79 | Advanced Teacher | 62 or more |
| 80 or above | Expert Teacher | 71 or more |
- Your level uses the lower of your General Educational and subject-specific scores, and you must also meet the qualification and years-of-experience conditions in the Article 4 table of the Regulations.
- The "Test content" section of ETEC's page gives 60 for Advanced Teacher, while its "Scoring" section and the Regulations table give 70. We use 70, because that is what the Regulations say.
Getting the license issued after you pass
The license goes through three stages set out in the Professional License Regulations (Article 5):
- Register for the tests in the online system, and ETEC checks your personal and professional details.
- Sit both tests, the General Educational Test and the subject-specific test; this stage ends when the results are announced.
- Apply for the license: you submit the request at the level whose conditions you fully meet (score, qualification and years of experience), and ETEC then issues it. Issuing or upgrading the license costs SAR 100 (Article 9). You apply through the Professional Licenses platform that ETEC's page links to.
The license is not issued automatically when your result appears, so do not delay the request: if you issue it within one calendar year of passing your latest test, it is valid for five years from the issue date; if you wait longer than a year, the five years run from the end of that year (Article 6).
How long results and the license are valid
- Test result: valid for five calendar years from the date it is announced; the same applies to the General Educational and subject-specific tests.
- License: valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year (Articles 6 and 7 of the Regulations).
- Licenses from the former competency test: the Regulations (Article 14) keep licenses issued on the basis of the former competency test valid until the end of 2028.
Retaking the test
ETEC's date table has a separate registration window for candidates who did not pass, so you can register again in later rounds. If you plan to retake to raise your level, ask ETEC about the conditions before registering.
