This is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, the National Center for Assessment (Qiyas) or any government body, and it cannot register you.
The Mathematics (Level 1) specialized test is one of the two tests the Teachers' Professional License requires. You register for it on ETEC's portal and pay its fee yourself, then register for the General Educational Test and pay for it separately.
Who can register?
ETEC's page says the test is for teachers currently working in government and private schools and for people who want to work in education, and its FAQ includes new graduates qualified for teaching jobs. Whether your qualification is accepted for a particular teaching post is up to the employer, and the Professional License Regulations require a "suitable qualification" when the license is issued (Article 4). If your degree is not in mathematics or education, check that it is accepted before you pay.
Math 1 or Math 2?
They are separate tests with different standards and weights, and the level follows the stage you teach:
| Level | For | Key points |
|---|---|---|
| Math 1 | Primary-stage teachers | 11 standards, geometry and measurement together 32%, no calculus |
| Math 2 | Intermediate and secondary teachers | Its own standards and weights, including calculus |
This matches the Mathematics Teachers' Standards document for Level 1, which defines its mathematical knowledge by the primary-stage curriculum. The Ministry of Education's guide to specializations for teaching jobs (2025, page 12) says the primary stage requires the professional license in Mathematics (1), and the intermediate and secondary stages require Mathematics (2). If you teach intermediate or secondary, your test is Math 2. This guide and our question bank here cover Level 1 only.
Fees
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Specialized test (Math 1) | SAR 100 |
| General Educational Test | SAR 100 |
| Issuing or upgrading the license | SAR 100 |
The license issue and upgrade fee is set in Article 9 of the Professional License Regulations for Educational Jobs.
How to register for Math 1
- Go to ETEC's e-services portal and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
- Register for the specialized test during the announced registration window and choose Mathematics, Level 1.
- Pay the fee (SAR 100) from your profile by bank or credit card. The window for changing your booking starts once payment is complete.
- Sit the test on your date with a valid ID.
- Check your result in your profile once it is announced.
ETEC publishes an illustrated registration guide for the specialized test (first edition, 2023) that covers creating an account, registering for the paper or digital test, paying, changing your booking and viewing your result. We have not tried the portal ourselves because it needs a login, and button labels may differ slightly.
Changing or deleting your booking
After paying, you can change or delete your booking from your profile at least 72 hours before a paper test, or 48 hours before a computer-based test. Your test format shows in your profile after you register, so use the deadline that applies to you. An unpaid booking is removed from your profile automatically, so do not put payment off.
What to bring on test day
You can enter with any one of these valid IDs:
- National ID for Saudis, or iqama for non-Saudis
- Passport
- Saudi driving licence
Calculators are not allowed. The test has 88 questions and lasts 120 minutes.
Latest test window: 18 to 31 October 2026
These are the dates ETEC published for the specialized test in the last round (1448 AH):
| Item | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration opens for working teachers | 3 August 2026 for men, 10 August 2026 for women |
| Registration opens for those who have not passed | 5 August 2026 for men, 12 August 2026 for women |
| Registration opens for everyone | 9 August 2026 for men, 16 August 2026 for women |
| Late registration | From 27 September 2026 |
| Specialized test | 18 to 31 October 2026 |
The next window
The next specialized test window is expected in late January 2027. Watch ETEC's page and your portal profile to learn when registration opens and closes. In the last round registration opened about two and a half months before the test.
Your result and how long it lasts
- Where to see it: your profile on the e-services portal; ETEC's illustrated guide explains how to view the result and its details.
- Score: score = correct answers ÷ number of questions × 100, with nothing deducted for wrong answers. The minimum for a license is 50.
- Validity: the result stays valid for five calendar years from the announcement date; the same applies to the General Educational and specialized tests.
How it relates to the General Educational Test
One result is not enough for the license. You need both: the specialized test in mathematics and the General Educational Test, which is the same for every subject (88 questions, paper only). Your level uses the lower of the two scores together with your qualification and years of experience, with these cut-offs (Article 4 of the Regulations):
| Score | Level |
|---|---|
| 50 to 69 | Practitioner Teacher |
| 70 to 79 | Advanced Teacher |
| 80 or above | Expert Teacher |
In the current round the General Educational Test is on 6 and 7 November 2026. Each test has its own registration and fee; see the registration guide for the General Educational Test.
Getting the license issued after you pass
The license is not issued automatically when your two results appear. The Professional License Regulations (Article 5) set out three stages:
- Register for the tests in the online system, and ETEC checks your details.
- Sit both tests, the General Educational Test and the specialized test; this stage ends when the results are announced.
- Apply for the license: you submit the request at the level whose conditions you fully meet (score, qualification and years of experience), and ETEC then issues it for SAR 100 (Article 9).
The license is valid for five years from the issue date if you issue it within one calendar year of passing your latest test; if you wait longer, the five years run from the end of that year (Article 6). So do not delay the request.
Before you pay
Before you pay the SAR 100 test fee, take the free questions and see where you stand in geometry and measurement (32% together), algebra (20%) and the other standards. Then read what the test covers and its weights, and start practice or the mock exam. Prices are on the exam page.
