Who can sit the exam

Final-year students, fresh graduates and working engineers can sit the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, provided they hold an active membership of the Saudi Council of Engineers. Passing the FE exam is required for the Associate Engineer grade (مشارك).

Two parts, both must be passed

PartQuestionsTimeFee
General part (this exam)903 hoursSAR 400
Discipline part503 hoursSAR 400

You register for both parts together and pay for each. If your discipline is not on the list, choose "Other". If you fail one part you pay that part's fee again and sit it at a later date. You cannot get the Associate Engineer grade until you pass both.

Registration steps

  1. Register with the Saudi Council of Engineers and hold an active membership.
  2. Wait for the SCE to announce the exam date and open registration.
  3. Register through your professional accreditation profile at the SCE or through the Qiyas portal, for both the general part and your discipline part.
  4. Pay SAR 400 for each part and choose your test centre.
  5. Attend on exam day with your admission card. Approved calculators are allowed and formula sheets are handed out in the hall; books and notes are not allowed.
  6. After Qiyas announces the results, the electronic pass certificate is emailed to those who pass. You use it to apply for the Associate Engineer grade.

Exam dates

The SCE announces the dates each year and Qiyas registration opens about two months before. The 2025 sittings were 28 April and 1 September, and the FAQ describes sittings every April and November. Watch the SCE announcements for the next date and register early.

Results and retakes

Results are announced on the Qiyas portal. If you do not pass a part, register for a later sitting and pay its fee again. Plan your retake date before you pay, because the wait is until the next announced sitting.
