Last verified: 30 October 2026. Fees and dates can change, so confirm everything on the Teachers' Professional License page on the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) website before you pay. This guide is independent: it is not affiliated with the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC), Qiyas (the National Center for Assessment) or any government body. We cannot register you for the test.

The teacher's professional license needs two tests: the General Educational Test and the specialized test in your subject. You register and pay for each one separately. This page covers registering for the English Language specialized test: Level (2) for intermediate and secondary teachers, Level (1) for elementary teachers.

The issuing and upgrade fee is set in Article 9 of the Professional License Regulations for Educational Jobs.

How to register

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one. ETEC's visual guide also shows how to recover a password and edit your personal data.
  2. Register for the English Language specialized test during the announced registration window, and choose Level (2) if you teach intermediate or secondary school. The visual guide has separate steps for registering for the paper test and for the digital test, and your profile shows which one yours is.
  3. Pay the test fee (SAR 100) from your profile by bank card or credit card.
  4. Check the details of your confirmed test in the same profile: date and venue.
  5. Sit the test with a valid ID, and answer in English.
  6. Check your result in your profile once it is announced.

ETEC published a visual registration guide for the specialized test (2023 first edition) with a walkthrough for each step. We have not used the portal ourselves because it needs a login, so button names may differ slightly.

Changing your date

After paying, you can change your test date from your profile, with separate steps for a paper test and a digital test. ETEC's page gives the cut-off for changing or deleting a booking as 72 hours before a paper test and 48 hours before a digital test.

Results and the license

  • Result validity: five years from the date it is announced.
  • Both tests: a specialized result alone is not enough. You also need to pass the General Educational Test.
  • License level: worked out from the lower of your two scores, together with the qualification and experience conditions. The Regulations set 50 for Practitioner Teacher, 70 for Advanced Teacher and 80 for Expert Teacher.
  • Issuing: the license is not issued automatically when your result appears, and issuing or upgrading it costs SAR 100 (Article 9).

Scoring is criterion-referenced with no penalty for wrong answers, so never leave a question blank.

Before you pay

Before you pay the SAR 100 test fee, take the free questions and see where you stand in teaching language skills and English linguistics (35% together) and the other standards. Then read what the test covers and its weights.
