Last verified: 31 October 2026. Fees and dates can change, so check everything on the Teachers' Professional License page on the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) website before you pay. This guide is independent: it is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas (the National Center for Assessment), the Ministry of Education or any government body. It cannot register on your behalf.

In short: you register for the Early Grades subject test from your profile on the e-services portal and pay SAR 100. The license also needs the General Educational Test, paid separately at SAR 100, and then SAR 100 when the license is issued.

Fees

Subject test (Early Grades)SAR 100
General Educational TestSAR 100
Issuing or upgrading the licenseSAR 100

The test fees come from the FAQ on ETEC's page, and the issue or upgrade fee from Article 9 of the Professional License Regulations for Educational Jobs. Someone who passes both tests at the first attempt pays SAR 300 in total to get the license issued.

Registration steps

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal and open your beneficiary profile, or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the Early Grades subject test during the announced registration window, and check that the subject name you pick matches your own field. This is the test for teachers of grades one to three of primary school. It is different from the Kindergarten test, and from the Arabic, Mathematics and Science tests for single-subject teachers, so do not pick one of those by mistake. Early Grades has a single test, so there are no levels to choose between. We have not tried the portal ourselves because it requires a login, so the subject's name there may differ.
  3. Pay the test fee (SAR 100) from your profile on the portal. After paying you can change or delete the booking within the deadline given below.
  4. Sit the test on the day with a valid ID (see "Test day" below).
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced.

ETEC has published a visual registration guide for the subject-specific license tests (2023) that walks through the steps with screenshots.

Next sitting

The first 1448 AH sitting ran from 18 to 31 October 2026. The next one is expected in late January 2027. Watch ETEC's page for when registration opens, and see the 1448 sittings dates guide.

Paper or computer?

ETEC says the subject test can be on paper or on computer depending on the subject, and that the type appears in your personal profile. Check yours in your profile after you register. The type sets your deadline for changing the booking:

Test typeLast time to change or delete the booking after paying
Paper72 hours before the test
Computer48 hours before the test

Test day

  • The test: 88 questions in 120 minutes.
  • Language: Arabic.
  • Calculator: not allowed.
  • Accepted ID: national ID for Saudis, iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence.
  • Content: one paper with six subjects: Arabic (25%), science (20%), Islamic studies (16%), mathematics (16%), growth characteristics (12%), and classroom environment and teaching methods (11%). The test measures your own subject knowledge, not grade-one textbook level.

Results and levels

Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty. The Regulations (Article 4) set the levels at these scores:

ScoreLevel
50 to 69Practitioner Teacher
70 to 79Advanced Teacher
80 and aboveExpert Teacher

The level uses the lower of the subject-test and General Educational Test scores, once the qualification and years-of-experience conditions in the Article 4 table are met. So with 85 in Early Grades and 55 in the General Educational Test, your counted score is 55.

Early Grades and the General Educational Test

The two tests are separate, each with its own registration, fee and result: the General Educational Test covers education and teaching methods for all teachers, and the subject test covers your own specialty. You need both for the license. They do not have to be taken in the same sitting, since each result stays valid for five years.

Getting the license issued after you pass

The Regulations (Article 5) describe three stages: registering for the tests through the electronic system, sitting both tests and receiving the results, and then applying for the license. You apply at the level whose conditions you meet in full (score, qualification and years of experience) and pay SAR 100, and ETEC issues it. You apply through the Professional Licenses platform that ETEC's page links to.

The license is not issued automatically when your result appears, so do not delay the application. If you issue it within one calendar year of passing your latest test, it is valid for five years from the issue date; if you wait longer than a year, the five years run from the end of that year (Article 6).

Validity

  • Test result: valid for five years from the date it is announced.
  • License: valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year (Articles 6 and 7).

Before you pay the SAR 100 test fee, take the free questions and see where you stand in Arabic (25%) and the other domains. Then read what the test covers and its weights.
