Last verified: 30 October 2026. Fees and dates can change, so check everything on the Teachers' Professional License page on the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) website before you pay. This guide is independent: it is not affiliated with ETEC, Qiyas (the National Center for Assessment), the Ministry of Education or any government body. It cannot register on your behalf.

In short: you register for the chemistry subject test from your profile on the e-services portal and pay SAR 100. The license also needs the General Educational Test, paid separately at SAR 100, and then SAR 100 when the license is issued.

The test fees come from the FAQ on ETEC's page, and the issue or upgrade fee from Article 9 of the Professional License Regulations for Educational Jobs. Someone who passes both tests at the first attempt pays SAR 300 in total to get the license issued.

Registration steps

  1. Go to ETEC's e-services portal and open your "beneficiary profile", or create an account if you do not have one.
  2. Register for the chemistry subject test during the announced registration window. We have not tried the portal ourselves because it needs a login, so the subject may be labelled differently there.
  3. Pay the test fee (SAR 100) from your profile in the portal. After paying you can change or delete the booking within the limits below.
  4. Sit the test on the day with a valid ID (see "Test day" below).
  5. Check your result in your profile once it is announced.

ETEC has published a visual guide to registering for the subject-specific license tests (2023) that walks through the steps with screenshots.

Paper or computer?

ETEC says the subject test can be on paper or on computer depending on the subject, and that the type is shown in your profile. Check yours in your profile after you register. It decides how long you have to change the booking:

Test typeLast time to change or delete the booking after paying
Paper72 hours before the test
Computer48 hours before the test

Test day

  • Language: Arabic.
  • Calculator: not allowed, so every problem is solved on paper.
  • Atomic masses: in ETEC's guide examples they are given in the question, such as (H=1, O=16, Na=23).
  • Accepted ID: national ID for Saudis, iqama for non-Saudis, a passport, or a Saudi driving licence.
  • Advice from ETEC's guide for chemistry teachers: finish your review a day or two before the test, rest, eat a light meal before going in, bring the required documents, queue in order when entering, and stay calm rather than letting small procedures bother you.
  • The guide also has an 11-question checklist ("Are you ready for the test?"), including whether you know the content, the date and what is needed to enter the hall, and whether you have practised similar questions.

Results and levels

Scoring is criterion-referenced and wrong answers carry no penalty. The Regulations (Article 4) set the levels at these scores:

ScoreLevel
50 to 69Practitioner Teacher
70 to 79Advanced Teacher
80 and aboveExpert Teacher

The level uses the lower of the subject-test and General Educational Test scores, together with the qualification and years of experience in the table of Article 4. If you score 85 in chemistry and 55 in the General Educational Test, your counted score is 55.

Getting the license after you pass

The Regulations (Article 5) set three stages: registering for the tests through the electronic system, sitting both tests and getting the results, then applying to issue the license: you submit the request for the level whose conditions you fully meet (score, qualification and years of experience) and pay SAR 100, and ETEC issues it. The request is made on the "Professional Licenses Platform" that ETEC's page links to.

The license is not issued automatically when the result appears, so do not delay the request: if you issue it within one calendar year of passing your latest test it is valid for five years from the issue date, and if you wait longer the five years are counted from the end of that year (Article 6).

Validity

  • Test result: valid for five years from the date it is announced.
  • License: valid for five years, and you can apply to renew it in its final year (Articles 6 and 7).

Before you pay the SAR 100 test fee, take the free questions and see where you stand in stoichiometry, gases, solutions, acids and bases (28%) and the other domains. Then read what the test covers and its weights.
