Requirements, dates and registration status can change, so confirm them on the SCFHS licensure exam dates page (Arabic version) and in the SLLE Examination Content Guideline before you apply and pay. You apply for the Saudi Laboratory Specialist Licensure Examination (SLLE) on the SCFHS platform, book on Prometric, and sit a computer-based exam in English. Candidates most often get caught on three things: the validity period of the scheduling permit, a test date that must fall inside it, and what you may bring into the room.
The steps from application to exam day
- Check eligibility: a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory (clinical laboratory sciences) or equivalent, and you are in or have finished your internship year.
- Apply for the exam on the SCFHS e-services platform (Mumaris+) and pay the fee.
- Once your application is processed, you receive an email with your scheduling permit and its validity period.
- Book a Prometric test centre through the website named in the permit. You can book up to three months ahead.
- On exam day, bring the permit and a valid passport or national ID.
- After your result, complete the SCFHS classification and registration requirements (see "After the exam" below).
These steps follow the general SCFHS licensure exam process. The SLLE guide does not describe the application route, so the exact details appear in your own application on Mumaris+.
Who can apply?
- Qualification: a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory (clinical laboratory sciences) or equivalent.
- Timing: you are in your internship year or have finished it. SCFHS describes the exam as assessing the competencies needed for a practice licence after the internship year.
- Which exam: SCFHS lists one exam called "Professional Laboratory Specialist". There is no separate exam page for laboratory technicians. If you are unsure your degree qualifies, ask SCFHS before you pay.
Fees
You pay the exam fee to SCFHS online when you apply, and the amount is shown in your application. Neither the dates page nor the SLLE guide publishes a fee figure, so we do not quote one. Figures on other websites disagree with each other, so rely on the amount in your application.
Exam windows and 2026 to 2027 dates
SCFHS runs near-monthly exam windows and shows the registration status of each one. These are the windows as shown on the SCFHS page on 31 October 2026:

The next window runs from 1 November to 24 November 2026. If your permit covers it, book your Prometric slot early, since booking opens up to three months ahead. Your test date must fall inside the permit validity period shown in your email.
Booking on Prometric
- You book through the website named in your scheduling permit, not on the SCFHS site.
- The exam has two parts of 120 minutes with a 30-minute break between them, so plan on 240 minutes at the computer. Choose a slot that gives you a calm morning and an unhurried trip to the centre.
- If you miss your slot or need to move it, read the change and cancellation rules on the booking site before you book.
Integrity rules in the exam room
The SCFHS exams page has a section called Examination Integrity Rules. What matters most for candidates:
- Books, electronic devices and any unauthorised items are not allowed in the exam room.
- Penalties for violations range from a written warning to permanent disqualification from the exam, depending on the violation.
- Leave your notes and your phone out of the session, and during the 30-minute break follow what the centre allows.
The SLLE guide does not say whether the centre provides a calculator, so practise calculations (dilutions, anion gap, reticulocyte correction) with pen and paper. Electronic devices are not allowed in the room, so ask Prometric what the centre provides.
Attempts and retakes
| Your situation | What SCFHS grants |
|---|---|
| You did not pass the first attempt | Two additional attempts |
| You have used those attempts | Chances open again one year after the date of your first attempt |
| You passed the first attempt | Two attempts to improve your score |
The annual improvement attempt can be submitted once per training year, provided the professional classification and registration requirements are met. Source: the "Professional Practice Licensure Exam Attempts" section of the SCFHS page.
That is why the first sitting matters: it uses up one of your three attempts. Do not book before you know where you stand.
Pass mark and what your result means
The pass mark is 530 on a scale of 200 to 800. It is a scaled score, not a percentage of correct answers. SCFHS set it in November 2019 and the Central Assessment Committee approved it. The 554 you may see on some websites comes from an older guide.
After the exam
- If you pass, complete your professional classification and registration with SCFHS. SCFHS requires the classification and registration requirements to be met before you can submit the annual improvement attempt.
- If you do not pass, you have two additional attempts, then wait until one year has passed from your first attempt. SCFHS classification and registration rules apply to candidates who do not pass.
- Before you rebook, go through your result section by section to see where you lost points.
Start by knowing your level
Before you pay the fee and book, take the free practice test (10 questions, no sign-up) to see your level and your weakest sections. Then read the exam content guide and the study plan.
